Social Media Marketing


Social media marketing is a fantastic way to market your game, drive traffic to your site and engage with customers as it allows you to reach people where they spend a lot of their time. Here are 3 techniques you can make use of to market your stuff on social media.

-Be visual, Show motion

In order to stand out from the crowd on social media the content you post must in some way be visual. Nobody goes on twitter to read a wall of text promoting a product. Things like adding a picture gif or even video if you have the time will help you stand out immensely. Research shows that adding visuals to your post makes it 10 times more likely to get engagements (The power of pictures. How we can use images to promote and communicate science - Research in progress blog, 2020)

 

-Use tags and hashtags

Hashtags are very useful when trying to reach out to new people. I’m going to use Twitter as an example because I am most familiar with it. When you post a tweet with no hashtags it only gets sent out to people you are following and by them liking and sharing that you can reach new people that way however by putting a hashtag in your tweet allows people who search that hashtag to find your content. There are rules to using hashtags however. 

1. Keep it simple. When you are choosing a hashtag you want to make sure you pick something people are actually searching for and as there are lots of hashtags out there you don’t want one that is long and difficult to spell.

2.Dont spam 10 hashtags on your post (unless you’re on Instagram) research has shown that for the best engagement on Twitter and Facebook 2 tags is the optimum. However, for some reason on Instagram 10 to 11 tags produce the best results (Bagadiya, 2020)  

3. Search the hashtag before you use it. Pretty self-explanatory, you want to search the hashtag and see if people are actually using it and also to see what kind of impressions they are getting.

 

- Viral Marketing

“Viral marketing is that which is able to generate interest and the potential sale of a brand or product through messages that spread like a virus, in other words, quickly, and from person to person. The idea is for it to be users themselves that choose to share the content.” - (Fraile, 2020). So viral marketing is a marketing strategy that relies heavily on the users themselves to share your post, with this in mind what are the advantages of viral marketing

Advantages

  • Low cost – As most of the work is done by the users sharing and getting your campaign out there as opposed to you buying advertisement space, it is fairly low cost and you get very good bang for your buck

·         Potential of great reach – Viral videos often have the ability to reach a huge amount of people even to the point of becoming international without having to spend a lot of money. This means that even small brands or even individuals can reach a huge international audience

·         It helps build your brand – If something goes viral, generally speaking it will be incredible content and thus it creates a personal connection can be formed between the brand and users.
